MGT502 Assignment # 2 Solution
MGT502 Assignment # 2 Solution:
Q.1:What will you suggest for these three persons? What leadership style they should adopt for the smooth transition. Please explain in your own words with valid reasons and points.
Answer:Lesson 23
LEADERSHIP APPLICATION Page 110 and 111. Leadership styles: There are four leadership styles.
1. Directive
2. Supportive
3. Participative
4. Achievement oriented
You can make 3 seperate paragraphs for the 3 names (FAHAD, IMRAN & IBRAHIM) mentioned in this assignment. This is your decission that which styles should be adopted by whom? U have to write atleast 90 words for one person as its 15 marks assignment.
Q.2:Explain the advantages and disadvantages associated with promoting internally to a leadership position. It would be better to the write advantages and disadvantages in numbering or bulliting form. atleast write 6-7.
Answer: Benefits of promoting from within In the business world, promoting from within can provide benefits in several areas:
Recruiting - Being known as an employer who offers opportunities for career advancement is attractive to prospective hires. Interviewees are impressed when they meet employees who've steadily moved up the ranks.
Retention - When new employees see that opportunities exist for them and that there's a track record of hiring from within, they tend to stay longer with your company.
Cost savings - The cost of recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new employees can outweigh the cost of training current employees for certain new skills. It can take internal candidates much less time to become effective in a new position because they are already familiar with the company culture and its goals.
Flexibility - Newly promoted staff can assist with training their replacements. They are available for questions and can occasionally fill in at their old position if needed in emergencies.
Culture fit - Existing employees fit in with the company culture (or else I assume you would not be promoting them). Conversely, despite the most probing interview questions, you're never positive about whether a new hire will be a good culture fit or not.
Disadvantages:-
* The job may require skills not found in your company.
* If you promote only from within, you limit the sources from which to draw candidates and you may be restricted to promoting a person significantly less qualified than someone from outside your company.
* People who have worked in other companies bring with them new and different ideas and know-how that can benefit your team.
* Outsiders look at your activities with a fresh view, not tainted by over-familiarity.
One of the major problems in interdepartmental transfers is the reluctance of department heads to release efficient and productive workers to other departments. One of the first actions of a company planning a policy of internal recruitment should be to notify all department heads and team leaders that it will overrule any attempts to keep people who could be more valuable to the organization from transferring to another position. It should also be mentioned that people who are passed over for better positions in other departments are unlikely to remain with the company, and probably will seek another job elsewhere - so both the department and the company will lose a valuable employee.

Questions:1. In the above scenario which negotiation perspective has been used(distributive/ integrative)? Give logical reasons to support your answer. (5marks)
Answer:
In this case the bargaining is distributive because in this bargaining one’s tactics focus on trying to get one’s opponent to agree to one’s specific target point or to get as close to it as possible. As you see the CEO of the company did the same thing, the CEO of that company decided to decrease the average salary from 3 million per year to 2.2 million per year which is almost 28 percent decrease. In this case CEO focus on trying to get his opponent to agree on specific target (28% decrease in salary) and in the last he offer them 27% and bring them on no win situation. Distributive bargaining leaves one party a loser. It tends to build animosities and deepens divisions
2. What factors do you believe lead to the lack of settlement in the negotiationof New Horizons? (5 marks)
Answer:
In this case the negotiation should be better if both parties are open with information and sincere about the conflict, understanding that if they unbending on there point of conflicts the lost of the company and the labors. They should trust one another and enthusiasm to maintain flexibility in negotiation.Determine CEO and the LABORS side’s Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement is (BATNA) if BATNA determines the lowest value acceptable to CEO/LABORS for disgreement. Any offer you receive that is higher than your BATNA is better than an impasse
